Classic Brats & Tots

Ingredients
  

Bratwurst
  • 6-12 buns Hotdog Buns
  • 12 bratwurst 1-2 Packs of brats gives you enough for each person to have two
Side
  • 1 large bag 1-2 lbs of tater tots

  • 1 Grill

Method
 

  1. Preheat: Heat oven to 400°F - 425°F (follow bags instructions), line the largest baking tray you have with foil, evenly space tater tots on the tray.
  2. Boil: In a large pot, fill with water and bring to a roiling boil.
  3. Cook: Place brats in the water and let cook for approximately 10min; or until brats begin to float.
  4. Preheat: Warm the grill to medium heat (350°F).
  5. Bake: Shortly after the brats have been placed in the water. Place tater tots in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes; flipping tots over half way through.
  6. Transfer: Once brats are cooked (approximately 10 min or when they begin to float) transfer to a preheated grill.
  7. Grill: Grill the brats for a few minutes each side (3-5min) to develop a nice sear.
  8. Rest: Pull brats off the grill and allow them to rest for a few minutes.
  9. Chows Up!

Notes

  • Parboiling the brats isn’t a necessary step but ensures the brats are cooked all the way through and infuses them with extra juices.
 
  • Transferring the brats the grill allows them to be seared, developing a nice crust on the brat.
 
  • Tater tots can easily be replaced with any multitude of various frozen oven backed sides, such as onion rings.
